2013 NBA Playoffs: Brooklyn Nets PG Deron Williams a No-Show in Game 2 Loss to Chicago Bulls

Debby Wong-USA Today Sports

In Game 1 on Saturday night, Brooklyn Nets starting point guard Deron Williams was highly productive, scoring 22 points while dishing out seven assists and recording three steals.

In Game 2 on Monday however, Williams was a virtual no-show.

The Nets entered the evening looking to put the clamp down on the Chicago Bulls and take a 2-0 series lead, but that simply was not to be. The Bulls used a nice advantage throughout the second half and despite a few comeback attempts, Brooklyn had no answer for what Chicago had to offer on Monday night.

While Williams wasn’t the only member of the Nets to struggle in Game 2, he was the most valuable of the group that did. Williams was just 1-of-9 from the field in the game, totaling just eight points. Six of Williams’ points actually came at the free throw line as his numbers from the field clearly indicate. The All-Star point guard did manager to accumulate ten assists, but he just didn’t see to be himself. Unfortunately for the Nets and their fans, it came at a difficult time as the Bulls now take momentum back home to Chicago for Games 3 and 4.

Williams needs to produce on the offensive end if the Nets are going to win this series, that much is obvious. However, in Game 2 the credit simply goes to the Bulls’ defense. Brooklyn struggled as a group shooting the basketball, but Williams will need to shoot his way around the Game 2 struggles when the two teams hit the hardwood yet again on Thursday night.
