Let’s have some fun with rumors and speculation. I mean, why not, crazier things have happened that what the title of this article is portraying. Even so, it could potentially be a possibility — although a farfetched one.
Just last week, the Cleveland Cavaliers made the decision to fire head coach Byron Scott after just three seasons. In Cleveland, those three seasons have quickly become a time to forget, as the Cavaliers have mustered only 64 wins in that span. LeBron James, who left Cleveland in 2010, helped lead the Miami Heat to 66 wins just this past season. Put that into perspective.
Well what if, for as quickly as things fell apart in Cleveland, they could be rebuilt?
It of course all starts with the coach. The Cavaliers reportedly reached out to gauge Phil Jackson‘s level of interest in returning to the bench. Then there are the other reports that claim that Jackson is “itching” to return to the sidelines.
As for Cleveland, well they have a young, budding point guard in Kyrie Irving and enough cap room and possibilities to restructure this franchise. Cleveland has also entertained the idea of bringing Mike Brown back to town and at this point, that looks like the best possible scenario. However, we are riding high on the idea of Jackson returning to the sidelines with Cleveland.
If this is the case, what are the chances that Jackson could lure James out of Miami when he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2014? Well, Jackson has won titles with Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, so come on LeBron you could be next. And for as much as Cleveland fans despised LeBron when he skipped town, the fact of the matter is that they would surely love him back. Who wouldn’t want a player who could potentially win his fourth MVP award in five seasons this year?
It’s quite the domino effect and its chances are — for lack of a better term — slim. But hey, who knows, maybe someday it could happen.
