Portland Trail Blazers Should Demand Plenty If They Trade LaMarcus Aldridge

Talk has been prevailing that some teams are contacting the Portland Trail Blazers about dealing LaMarcus Aldridge.

The latest rumor comes from the Cleveland Cavaliers who want to dangle young prospects and draft picks in front of the Blazers’ noses to lure Aldridge away from Portland.

If that’s the direction the Trial Blazers want to take, it might be wise, but only if they get a fortune in return from the Cavaliers, who would become instant playoff contenders with Aldridge on the roster.

Aldridge right now might look more valuable to other teams than the Blazers. Despite his fine 2012-13 NBA season, it wasn’t enough to stop the Blazers from taking a nosedive and losing their last 13 games. It’s incredibly unlikely the Cavaliers would part with Kyrie Irving, but there would be many Portland fans that would insist on such a deal.

It also puts the Blazers in a position of focusing on the youth movement, starting with Damian Lillard. They would basically be giving up the next two to four years while waiting for their young players to mature into greatness and then making a run at the NBA title.

Aldridge had great numbers last season with 21.1 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. In his seventh NBA season, he has averaged more than 21 points a game the last three years.

It’s not a bad idea to think about trading Aldridge while he’s got tremendous value. But the Blazers had better make sure they get something golden in return from the Cavaliers.
