When you look at the numbers from this past season for Ohio senior point guard D.J. Cooper, you should be instantly impressed. Cooper, who stands at 6-feet tall, was amongst the top college basketball players in terms of assists per game this past year, averaging 7.1 per contest. Cooper is a crafty left-hander who can run and dictate an offense. He has continuously shown the ability to score the basketball, averaging in double-figures in all four of his years at the collegiate level.
Cooper helped make the Bobcats a continued threat within the MAC during his career, averaging over 30 minutes per game in each season. Cooper is undersized for the NBA level, barely measuring in at 6-feet, but he is an interesting prospect. He’s a change of pace guy with good speed and he brings a sense of flashiness to his game. At this point however, Cooper is likely to go undrafted this June.
Strengths: Cooper is a crafty left-hander and the bottom line is this — he can create offense for himself and others. Cooper can shoot the three and he’s good at going off the dribble and creating in both the half court and transitional aspects of the game.
Weaknesses: Cooper is undersized and that’s his biggest weakness. At 6-feet, Cooper is going to struggle against more physical guards and he could certainly become a liability on the defensive end.
Draft Projection: Undrafted
