A big congrats to Roy Hibbert. He and his Indiana Pacers won not only game six, but also the award for most memorable post-game interview in recent memory. After Indiana took down the Miami Heat Saturday night in a win-or-go-home game six at home, the now-polarizing center apparently went begging for a fine from the commissioner.
Asked first of all how it was possible he finished 10th overall in the NBA Defensive Player of the Year voting, Hibbert responded:
“You know what, because y’all motherf••••••s don’t watch us play throughout the year, to tell you the truth. So that’s fine. I’m going to be real with you, and I don’t care if I get fined. We play and we’re not on TV all of the time and reporters are the ones that are voting and it is what it is. And I don’t make it, that’s fine. I’m still going to do what I have to do.”
Oh, it gets better. Hibbert was far from done in this one.
When asked about protecting the paint better, Hibbert had a little fun with his answer:
“There was game three here that I felt I let Paul (George) down in terms of having his back when LeBron was scoring in the post or getting into the paint because they stretched me out so much – no homo (laughs) – but I want to be there for him. I think he has a chance to be MVP of this league next year.”
Allow me to be perfectly honest here for a moment. The Pacers are done for in game seven; absolutely done for. Hibbert just made sure of it with his post-game antics. Not only does this create an enormous distraction for Indiana over the next couple of days, but you better believe Miami will be more focused than ever at home in a game seven situation.
Enjoy the win tonight big man, because as they say, this feeling can’t last forever – and in this case, it’s a guarantee. It won’t. The road ends for you and your boys in Miami.
