Not many people may be familiar with the name Dario Saric, and that’s because he’s from Croatia and unless you follow the NBA Draft closely — you might not be aware of his talent level either.
At 6-foot-10, Saric is a stretch forward to the fullest extent and he has the ability to play both the power and small forward positions within the half court. He can run and he can shoot, which is why many NBA scouts have been impressed with his upside and potential heading into the 2013 NBA Draft.
At this point, Saric is looking like a mid first round selection, but he has the potential to break into the lottery portion on draft night if one team is that much sold on his potential. and upside However, Saric is raising some interesting red flags and they don’t come as all that much of a surprise. Saric has been rumored in the past to be considering removing his name from the field and now, ESPN draft insider Chad Ford is reporting that that very well could be the case.
At first, Saric was considering the move in a position of whether or not he saw himself as a lottery projection, but he has worked his way up the draft boards and he very well could be in that position. However, that doesn’t mean that he still isn’t considering retracting his name from the field prior to the June 17th deadline.
According to Ford’s recent report however, Saric is considering staying in Croatia for one more season and working on his skills, so that he can become more-NBA ready.
Credit Saric for seeing his potential from a first hand account, but if he plans on coming to the NBA next year, he might be in for a rude awakening considering the difference in this year’s draft class to next. The 2014 NBA Draft class is expected to be loaded with talent, especially within the upper portion, so this is a risky call for Saric either way.
