Miami Heat’s LeBron James Would Shine in 1980s and 1990s; Dennis Rodman is Delusional

LeBron James faces Chicago Bulls

It seems like whenever players from the 1980s and 1990s speak about LeBron James, the answer is always controversial. For instance, guys like Karl Malone and Scottie Pippen claim James is better than the great Michael Jordan, while morons like Dennis Rodman can’t help but bring the king down.

Honestly, can an NBA-veteran please just give a level-headed critique of this guy?

Comparing Jordan and James is a frightening thing to do in the first place, but Rodman decided to do more than that on Friday. In light of the Miami Heat reaching their third straight NBA Finals, the ex-Chicago Bulls forward was asked about James and offered this idiotic bit to ESPN :

“If LeBron was playing in the late ’80s and early ’90s, he would be just an average player.”

Apparently, the four MVP trophies awarded to James in his 10-year career were just “average.” Who in their right mind can call a physical specimen like LeBron anything but spectacular? The grittier, tougher and overall more-lenient league that Rodman played in would have benefited James’ game more than you think.

For instance, the amount of steals that James would have gotten in the 1980s and 1990s would have skyrocketed, thus creating more fastbreak points for LBJ. Hand checking was allowed in Jordan’s day and it propelled him to the always-impressive NBA Defensive Player of the year Award in 1987-88. With longer limbs and considerably more strength than Jordan, LeBron wold have been able to take the ball from lesser players at will without having to worry about getting into foul trouble.
