While it’s not a black cat or a fan lunging at a foul ball, the Miami Heat could be victims of a bad omen as they move forward in the 2013 NBA Finals. Despite a victory on the court, it was a bad evening for any Heat fan who was watching Game 4 at the Shuckers Bar & Grill in North Bay Village, Florida.
The popular hangout features an interesting outdoor deck that overlooks the the shallow Biscayne Bay. Unfortunately, the deck buckled. The incident is likely due to over 100 fans jumping up and down as the Heat reeled in a crucial victory, but the cause is still undetermined.
While many basketball fans just got an unexpected bath, many more were injured due to the collapse and two victims remain in the hospital where they are described to be in “serious condition.” Surely, the brash San Antonio Spurs‘ faithful are calling the Miami swimmers a bunch of wimps, but the following quote from North Bay Village mayor Connie Leon shows the legitimacy of it all:
“This is a real tragedy. Shuckers has been here for many, many years.”
Dwyane Wade commented on the event in his post game press conference, so you know it’s on his mind, but is it going to be under the rather thin skin of LeBron James? Drama seems to follow the “Big 3,” but this tragic incident could really affect the play of No. 6.
Fortunately, the fans who were dumped in the Bay will get to see at least one more game at American Airlines Arena this postseason as the Heat forced a Game 6 by evening up the series on Thursday.
