The Miami Heat won their second consecutive championship after their third consecutive trip to the NBA Finals since the arrival of the “Big Three.” But now that they have proven that they can win multiple NBA Championships, how can they maintain this level of success?
First things first, the Heat need Dwayne Wade to get back to being 100 percent. LeBron James is the best player in the NBA, but the Finals against the San Antonio Spurs and even the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers would have been over in five games if Wade hasn’t stepped his game up.
James is Miami’s greatest weapon, but Wade is the catalyst that controls the Heat’s success. If they want to keep winning championships, he has to get back to being healthy and playing at his 2006 level.
The Heat need to continue to make good decisions in the NBA Draft. Norris Cole has been an amazing asset off the bench for Miami. His contribution helped win games when Wade and Chris Bosh weren’t playing well. The Heat need to continue to get players that can chip in from time to time, because the “Big Three” can’t win championships all by themselves.
However, the most important thing that Miami has to take into the next season is to not rest on their success. It’s easy to get complacent when a team is expected to win and does so. The Heat cannot get complacent, because every team will be extra motivated to end their success next season.
Miami has the most talent of any team in the league and will continue to be NBA title contenders for a long time. However, the offseason actions by the players and the management will be what decides whether they merely contend, or continue to win in the future.
