The Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the world last night with their pick of Anthony Bennett as the first pick in the 2013 NBA draft, which was also David Stern’s last NBA draft.

The Cavaliers clrearly have their eye on LeBron James and are gathering as many attractive assets as possible. If James achieves the three-peat though (a term that is coincidentally trademarked by Pat Riley), then Cavaliers fans will be out of luck. The best they can hope for is an embarrassing playoff exit next year for James. Also, check out the excellent USA Today piece about the Cavs reasoning.

The Cavaliers are an attractive option though if Dwyane Wade’s knees can’t last through multiple more seasons in the league and if Chris Bosh continues to show a knack for missing jumpers at untimely moments. James is unlikely to have Ray Allen’s help beyond next year and Shane Battier looks like he is on the way out as well. In the meantime, we will just have to see how Bennett develops as a player and also how exactly he fits into the Cavs roster. At this point it is still a bit unclear.
