The Washington Wizards had one of the best draft nights in all of the NBA this year as they were able to get their targeted prospect Otto Porter Jr. with the third overall pick as well as Glen Rice Jr. with their second round pick. Both players figure to be a part of the rotation right away in their first season with the team, and Rice Jr. specifically had a nice summer league showing.
In this year’s summer league Rice Jr. proved he can score consistently. He displayed a nice stroke from outside the arc as he hit quite a few three pointers in the Wizards few games. The other aspect of his game we saw offensively was his ability to drive to the hoop and finish.
Rice Jr. will prove to be a valuable asset in the 2013 season for Washington as he will likely come into the year as their backup shooting guard. His story has been quite a phenomenal one as he came into the draft right out of the NBA D-League after playing his college ball at Georgia Tech.
What the rookie has showed throughout summer league has been the ability to choose his shots at an efficient rate, not risking a bad shot for the sake of his own statistical purpose.
There was one instance where Rice Jr. missed a dunk and was visibly frustrated, having to have his coaches calm him down a bit. But, other than that his outing was pretty solid out in the summer league. If he continues to progress at this pace, he will be a viable scoring option for Washington this year and be on his way to a nice long career in this league.
