What Does Addition Of Lloyd Pierce To Coaching Staff Mean For Philadelphia 76ers?

Lloyd Pierce will be sitting on the sidelines with new Philadelphia 76ers coach Brett Brown. The Sixers added the former Memphis Grizzlies assistant coach to Brown’s coaching staff shortly after relieving previous assistants Michael Curry, Aaron McKie and Jeff Capel of their duties as assistants.

Pierce was among the candidates for the Sixers’ head coaching gig, according to various media reports. He has been on the Grizzlies coaching staff for the past two seasons.

This hiring falls more in line with Brown. Both Pierce and Brown have backgrounds in player development. Pierce was the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ coordinator of player development from 2007 to 2010. The roster has a lot of young talent that Pierce can develop. Rookie Michael Carter-Williams will benefit from Pierce after having a mediocre showing in the Summer League.

The Sixers will quickly look to fill the remaining two assistant spots within the next week. They’ll look to add remaining assistants from playoff teams, with some of the candidates being Jay Larranaga and Adrian Griffin. The coaching staff now has two members who come from playoff-tested teams. The Sixers will benefit from their experiences, especially if they make the playoffs.

Pierce was on the Grizzlies staff who saw center Marc Gasol transform from a work-in-progress into an NBA All-Star and this year’s Defensive Player of the Year. He can work with Lavoy Allen and Evan Turner. Allen and Turner have been struggling and can use Pierce’s help in bringing out their potential.
