The Los Angeles Clippers added to their already good basketball team by landing Antawn Jamison, according to USA Today Sports. However, what can the 37-year-old bring to the team?
Jamison is not going to go back to his old ways and average around 20 points per game, but I am sure no one is expecting that, or at least I hope not. The Clippers won 56 games last year and they will once again contend for an NBA title. They do not need Jamison to put up really impressive numbers.
With that said, he did manage to average 9.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season.
What he can provide to an already great team is a spark off of the bench. He can still score the basketball and he is a pretty accurate shooter. From behind the arc last season, Jamison shot 36.1 percent and made 84 threes. His role was not as great with the Los Angeles Lakers as it was for other teams in the past.
However, that does not mean that he still doesn’t “got it.” He did score 17.2 points per game in the 2011-12 season.
The most important thing that Jamison will bring to the team is his veteran leadership, though. He has been in the league for quite some time now and he has played for quite a bit of teams.
It helps that he can still put the basketball into the hoop and he could really show that with more playing time–not sure if that will happen.
I don’t think Jamison was as important of a pickup as J.J. Redick, but he is still a good player and he will play a key role off of the bench.
