It seemed after last season that Taj Gibson would finally get his chance to start with Carlos Boozer‘s exit imminent, but then the Chicago Bulls decided to sign Pau Gasol. Rumors began to circulate this week that Gibson was unhappy to continue to keep coming off the bench, but Gibson put those rumors to rest quickly.
I like coming off the bench tho!!! Starting or coming of the bench really doesn’t matter. Please miss me with the drama #SeeRed #BullsNation

Gibson has always been a consummate professional and a team guy, so even if he was upset about coming off the bench he would never say as much for the betterment of the team. Gibson is part of the Bulls’ young nucleus that also includes Joakim Noah, Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler. He signed a new deal prior to last season and is under contact for three more years.
Gibson has thrived in his sixth man role, averaging 13 points and 6.8 rebounds last season while playing high-caliber defense. Gibson played in all 82 games last season and started eight of them. He has proven his worth and has been consistent and dependable for the Bulls over the years. He is certainly deserving of a starting role, but is willing to sacrifice that in order for the Bulls to achieve their goals.
Gasol has been frequently injured as of late, and it is possible Gibson could end up starting at some point. Gibson played starter’s minutes last season and often played the entire fourth quarter for defensive purposes. It wouldn’t be out of the question for Gibson to reprise that same role in the fourth quarter this season.
