NBA 2K15 will hit the streets in a week on Oct. 7, just in time for the NBA preseason to get underway. As a result, the player ratings have been released and that’s obviously going to start discussion about how the video game developers perceive the league and how the public views players.
There’s rightfully going to be a lot of discussion about the league’s elite players and how they stack up against one another in the virtual NBA landscape. That seems to be the place where most of the discussions and arguments about video game ratings begin. It’s safe to say, though, that Toronto Raptors rookie Bruno Caboclo and Phoenix Suns big man Shavlik Randolph won’t be in that type of discussion.
With both Caboclo and Randolph receiving an overall rating of 64 in NBA 2K15, they share the dubious honor of being the two lowest-rated players in the game. Though there are some other players who should probably be in the conversation for lowest-rated player, it’s not hard to understand how 2K Sports landed on those two as the ones to receive 64s.
On the night of the 2014 NBA Draft, Caboclo was described on the broadcast as “two years away from being two years away.” Sure, he has the moniker of being the “Brazilian Kevin Durant,” but he’s an incredibly raw prospect that is more than likely not going to have much of an impact on the Raptors this season as he tries to develop his game into something ready for the NBA.
In the case of Randolph, he’s a veteran guy that has never really stuck in the league. He’s got some discernible NBA skills, but he’s almost wholly underwhelming and isn’t likely to play any part in the Suns’ quest to make the postseason this year.
It’s pretty clear why these two players were singled out as the ones to be the lowest rated in NBA 2K15. They aren’t much of a factor in the real world, so it makes sense that the video game would reflect that. If you think you’ve mastered the game after it comes out, though, try dropping 20 points with either Randolph or Caboclo.
