The 2014 NBA Draft has been touted for quite a long time, well before this summer when these players actually had the chance to enter the league. Looking at the draft class at this point leading into the preseason, though, we have a relatively cemented idea of which guys are ready to contribute right now and which guys qualify more as long-term projects with potential.
As the player ratings for NBA 2K15 make their way around the internet, we get a chance to see how the developers at 2K Sports and, to a certain degree, the public view the players in this rookie class. As it turns out, the top of the list for rookies isn’t all that surprising.
The second and third highest rated rookie players in 2K15 are Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid, both of whom were rated at a 77. Coming in ahead of those two guys, though, is the number-two overall pick from this year’s draft, Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker.
It’s not surprising at all that Parker tops this list when you think about it. Of the lottery picks in this year’s draft class, the general consensus was that Parker would be able to contribute the most right way. He may not have the potential and upside of guys like Wiggins and Embiid, but his skill-set is already at a place where he can have success in the league.
When we’re looking at the ratings for NBA 2K18 down the road, the rankings for the 2014 draft class are likely going to look substantially different. There are so many rookies with massive potential right now that some of them are surely going to be blossoming into stars by that point. Parker’s upside isn’t as substantial as other prospects, which could very well remove him from the top of the list then. In a game that rates a players effectiveness right now, though, Parker deserves to be the cream of the 2014 NBA Draft crop.
