This upcoming season will be a whole new venture for the Miami Heat organization, one that will have plenty of highs and lows from all of the new faces on the roster.
With youth and athleticism becoming all the more prevalent amongst teams contending for a title, the Heat have begun stockpiling talented young players to help bolster the depth behind the starting lineup. The small forward position has taken a hit with LeBron James’s departure, even with the signings of Luol Deng and Danny Granger. Having a young player who can provide explosiveness off the bench is exactly what the Heat will need, and James Ennis is the player to fill that void.
Although Ennis is still a raw talent, his development as a player has become much more substantial over the last year. He has developed the versatility to play at both the small forward and shooting guard positions, and has really developed his ball-handling abilities. The biggest knock against Ennis since his acquisition by the Heat was his lack of physicality, but that has also changed over the course of the last year, and Ennis can now provide the team both speed and length.
Ennis was a standout player at Long Beach State, but excelled greatly playing in the Australian League, where he averaged 24 PPG and 6.8 RPG. He even finished third in MVP voting for the entire league. Ennis is primed to make an impact in the NBA, and especially for the Heat. The wing position will need consistent productivity on both ends of the floor, and Ennis is now ready to provide just that.
