The Toronto Raptors were introduced into the NBA along with the Vancouver Grizzlies as part of the league’s expansion into Canada in 1995. Nearly 20 years later, only one team remains north of the border. Although the history is not studded with bling, here are the top-five coaches in Raptors' history.

Due to the lack of success and creditable coaches for the Toronto franchise, Brendan Malone makes the list in the fifth spot. Malone has mainly been an assistant in the NBA, but has had the chance to be the skipper on a few occasions. He was the first coach for the Raptors and Damon Stoudamire was also Rookie of the Year for Toronto in the team’s first season.

Butch Carter’s claim to fame is being the older brother of the NFL great Cris Carter. Butch led the Raptors to their first winning record in 2000 as well as their first playoff appearance the same season. Vince Carter was also named Rookie of the Year while Carter was at the helm. Toronto has produced some great rookies, but hasn’t been able to translate that into titles.

The same season, he was named Coach of the Year as Bryan Colangelo was named Executive of the Year. Mitchell also led Toronto to consecutive playoff appearances.

There are very few NBA coaches who can uproot this basketball icon. Claiming the top spot is none other than Lenny Wilkens. The three-time Hall-of-Famer coached Toronto for three seasons and led the Raptors on their deepest playoff run ever in 2001, when they reached the Conference Semifinals. He has the second most wins of all-time and is one of the top 10 coaches in NBA history.
