Media Misses Point In Chris Bosh’s LeBron James Comments
So LeBron James leaves the Miami Heat on what seemed like a midnight run gone wrong, and now Chris Bosh does not care to talk to him?
That’s the major media story that everyone covering basketball decided to take and run with, resulting in the narrative of the big man being bitter that he and Dwyane Wade were left behind for James to chase championships in Cleveland with his revamped dream team. But let me be one of the few to say, who cares?
If people took the time to piece things together they would have noticed that Bosh’s statement about not speaking with James since he left was said with a wry smile — perhaps realizing that people would notice that both players were in attendance at Wade’s summertime wedding. An obvious oversight that he worked to clarify today (“My time is backwards, but we talked”).
But again, why does it matter? Ex-teammates do not equal former best friends. That’s a fact that Bosh has hinted at — going as far back as 2011 — when it was reported that he would rather read books than hit the club with his two superstar teammates.
It’s quite possible that they were simply co-workers and not as tight as James’ media day description of how he sees the man who nicknamed himself “Three.” Bosh’s name was an obvious omission from his Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and Wade list of relationships that go “beyond basketball.” Which is sort of the point that pundits missed.
The gist of Bosh’s initial statement was about focusing on getting the players in his own locker room to become better, not about James. However if there are any remnants from the story, it will be a little added competitiveness to the Christmas game from an unexpected source.
