The paint is a sacred area on the basketball court. Inside the paint, nothing comes easy. The baddest of the bad play down low. These are the top five frontcourt big man duos heading into the 2014-15 season.

These two youngsters compliment each other very nicely. Monroe is a skilled big who can hit mid-range jumpers, while Drummond is an in-your-face, above the rim monster bound for plenty of 20/20 games throughout his career. This young duo is limitless.

9. Dallas Mavericks: Dirk Nowitzki and Tyson Chandler

Dirk remains one of the most efficient scorers in the league, and Chandler is back with a winning organization. The newly re-built Mavericks are primed to make another title run. Chandler and Nowitzki may be aged veterans, but their presence will surely be felt in crunch-time situations.

8. Portland Trail Blazers: LaMarcus Aldridge and Robin Lopez

Aldridge was in the MVP conversation last year after a huge statistical jump from the season prior. Lopez is the perfect complimentary player for the ultra-skilled Aldridge. He will do the dirty work and get his team extra possessions while playing excellent defense. Portland could take the next step towards contending this season, Aldridge and Lopez will be leading the way.

7. Washington Wizards: Nene and Marcin Gortat

These two proved their worth last season as they were a major part of beating Chicago in the first round of the playoffs. Nene is probably reaching the end of his prime, but Gortat is just entering his. Both of these guys can beat you in a variety of ways. They're both skilled, strong and athletic. The Wizards create big time matchup problems with this front line.

6. Golden State Warriors: David Lee and Andrew Bogut

Lee and Bogut have both been injury riddled in their time with Golden State, but when they're on the floor together, they're spectacular. Both guys are relentless on the offensive glass and both finish with nice touch around the rim. Lee, a two-time All-Star, is the leader of the Warriors team. They go as he goes.

5. Memphis Grizzlies: Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol

Probably the most bruising duo on this list. The Grizzlies play a grind-it-out kind of game, and these two fit that style perfectly. Gasol's name is in the conversation as one of the league's best centers, and Randolph can still fill it up. In an above-the-rim league, this below-the-rim duo remains incredibly effective.

4. Atlanta Hawks: Paul Millsap and Al Horford

They've barely played together due to Horford's pectoral injury, but there are some seriously huge expectations for this duo this season. The Hawks are a solid sleeper pick in the East and Millsap and Horford are a big reason why. Both players are incredibly efficient and both play within themselves, something everyone on the Hawks follows their lead on. If healthy, keep and eye on this duo this season.

3. San Antonio Spurs: Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter

Their current stats don't jump off the page at you, but there is no doubt that Splitter and Duncan are one of the best big-man duos in the league. Solid screen setting and fantastic ball movement is what the Spurs system asks of its bigs, and there might not be two better players to fill that role. Duncan is reaching the end, but Splitter has plenty of development left. They both should enjoy pretty productive seasons.

2. Chicago Bulls: Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah

The Bulls are hoping these two can mesh right away, and that's a real possibility. Both guys play selfless games based on the team's best interests -- a trait cherished by Tom Thibodeau. They may be at the top of this list come Springtime because their interior passing is going to be a thing of beauty. Gasol hasn't played with a skilled, selfless big man for a while. It will be fun to watch this duo develop.

The Clippers' frontcourt may be the most physically imposing duo in the history of the NBA. The athleticism of these physical specimen is literally unbelievable, and their skill level just keeps improving. Griffin will be a real MVP candidate this season, while Jordan should be in talks for Defensive Player of the Year. They are, hands down, the top frontcourt duo heading into 2014-15.
