Predicting the San Antonio Spurs’ Final 2014-15 Roster
The defending NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs are one roster spot away from the 15-man limit after releasing G Bryce Cotton and F Joshua Davis. The Spurs have a number of worthy candidates for the last roster spot, but the situation seems to be pretty simple for the defending champs.
The Spurs worked hard to bring back the exact same roster that won a fifth championship for the franchise. No team values the entire roster like the Spurs, and that makes this final cut that much more important for the team.
The starting five will be no surprise to anyone. Tony Parker and Danny Green will start at guard, Kawhi Leonard and Tim Duncan will start at forward and Boris Diaw or Tiago Splitter will round out the starting five.
San Antonio’s second unit has always been a strength for the team. Manu Ginobili, Marco Belinelli, Patty Mills, Matt Bonner and Aron Baynes are all capable of playing and excelling in the Spurs’ system. These guys have all given a spark to the team at crucial times during the season.
The last five, Cory Joseph, Kyle Anderson, Jeff Ayers, Austin Daye and JaMychal Green are all talented, but at the end of the day, it looks like Green will be out. The other four, excluding Anderson, have played critical minutes in important games for the Spurs, and Green brings nothing that those players can’t. Anderson is the first-round draft pick and won’t be cut anytime soon.
All in all, it looks like San Antonio won’t be making too many changes this year, and they look to be just as competitive as before.
