Brooklyn Nets Wisely Get Rid of Marquis Teague
In all honesty, the Brooklyn Nets are extremely lucky to have found a taker for young point guard, Marquis Teague. The younger brother of Atlanta Hawks‘ Jeff Teague has struggled to see playing time in his brief NBA career. He was a member of the Chicago Bulls last season before being traded to the Nets.
The Nets basically got nothing in return for Teague as they shipped him and a 2019 second-round pick — that they got from the Milwaukee Bucks in the Jason Kidd deal — to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Casper Ware, who is reportedly expected to be released by the Nets, bringing their roster to 15 players. So, you can say the Nets traded Teague for a roster spot, which for them isn’t bad at all.
This gives the Nets more options heading into the season and it seems more and more likely Jerome Jordan will make the team. Brooklyn also really didn’t need four point guards on the roster. In my opinion, I think the Nets will go after another backup point guard — possibly Will Bynum. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brooklyn ends up cutting point guard Jorge Gutierrez.
Also, earlier today the Nets did pick up the 2015-16 options on Mason Plumlee and Sergey Karasev. The Teague trade with Philly was absolutely a very smart thing for Billy King to do. There was no place for Teague on Brooklyn’s roster. There was no need for him. He never got to see the court unless there was a blowout involved. We all hope Teague can make a name for himself in Philadelphia, but props to King as the Nets are the clear winners of this trade.
