Marquis Teague A Perfect Fit For Philadelphia 76ers
Friday afternoon, the Philadelphia 76ers announced the acquisition of third-year point guard Marquis Teague.
In exchange for guard Casper Ware, the 76ers acquired Teague along with a 2019 second-round draft pick from the Brooklyn Nets. In his brief two-year career, the former University of Kentucky point guard has played for both the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets. He is also the younger brother of Atlanta Hawks star point guard Jeff Teague.
Teague has had a hard time seeing the court so far during his short time in the NBA, as he averages just under 10 minutes per game. But despite his career 2.3 points per game and 1.4 assists per game averages, Teague is a great fit for the rebuilding 76ers.
With Michael Carter-Williams being absent from the team indefinitely, the 76ers roster lacks a true point guard. Tony Wroten has filled in at the position so far this preseason, but he is much better suited at playing off of the ball. Being a point guard isn’t the only reason Teague fits in so well with the 76ers. Despite already entering his third year in the NBA, Teague is only 21 years old, which means that he will be able to develop alongside a roster that is full of young talent.
Now being presented with an opportunity to see a substantial amount of playing time, Teague must take full advantage. If he can prove to 76ers management that he can play in this league, he may just find himself as a long term member of the franchise’s drastic rebuilding project.
