Oklahoma City Thunder’s Most Likely 2014-15 Roster Cuts

This could finally be the season the Oklahoma City Thunder franchise makes the leap to become NBA Champions. All the pieces are being set for this team to really make strides in the Western Conference, even against other elites in the conference like the San Antonio Spurs and the Los Angeles Clippers. The Kevin Durant injury will only set them back slightly, as Russell Westbrook is more than willing to take the reins on offense and lead this team to multiple wins in the MVP’s absence.

What will really solidify this team as a contender is the quality of depth behind the starting lineup. With injuries to both Durant and Anthony Morrow lingering for the next six to eight weeks, the offense in the backcourt outside of Westbrook is weak. That is why the Thunder organization might take a hard look at players who are released before Monday’s deadline in order to strengthen this key flaw. You can almost guarantee that if the Thunder find such a player, the current frontcourt will undoubtedly lose a player out of their rotation.

Both PF Grant Jerrett and C Mitch McGary have a good chance of being cut if the Thunder can find another quality backup guard. The Thunder are already deep in the frontcourt rotation with players like Serge Ibaka, Nick Collison, Steve Adams and Perry Jones. The only other player that has the potential to be cut is SF Lance Thomas, but with the injury to Durant, the Thunder will need all the depth at small forward they can get in the short term.
