Andre Drummond Key To Detroit Pistons Having a Bright Future
The Detroit Pistons are on the road to recovery, and it has been a long time since they have put a winning team on the court. They play in the tough Central Division in the Eastern Conference of the NBA. That’s the same division that the league’s newest super team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, appears poised to win.
The Pistons are a good, but not great team. They have a lot of fine players but still lack a true point guard. Brandon Jennings is nowhere near as talented as the likes of Kyrie Irving or Derrick Rose. So, how are the Pistons supposed to compete with teams like the Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls?
Andre Drummond.
If there is a leader on the Pistons, Drummond is that guy. His presence down low means more to the Pistons than any other player on their roster, and he will have to continue to dominate down low to give his team a chance to win. The Pistons face a lot of tough bigs in their division as well, but Drummond might be the most talented.
Drummond uses his talent and athleticism more than his size, and it is starting to pay off. He is starting to learn how to play against bigger bodied centers. The Pistons are in a definite state of rebuilding, and Drummond is the most important piece.
It could take the Pistons a few years to become a playoff team, but if they can continue to develop Drummond then they are well on their way already. Stan Van Gundy is one of the best coaches in developing post players, so Drummond is in good hands. If Greg Monroe and Drummond finally learn to play together cohesively, then the underachieving Pistons could make a run for a low seed in the playoffs.
