Toronto Raptors Should Strongly Consider Trading Landry Fields

The Toronto Raptors are coming off of one of their best seasons since Chris Bosh left for the Miami Heat, as in 2013-14 season they were able to win 48 games, win the Atlantic Division and finish third in the Eastern Conference. In the playoffs the Raptors pushed the Brooklyn Nets to a great seven-game series, but they were just narrowly edged out by the veteran Nets.

One player that the Raptors hoped would be an effective rotation player, Landry Fields has continuously gotten worse since his solid rookie season with the New York Knicks. As a second-round pick, Fields looked to be a steal for the Knicks after he averaged 9.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He was also shooting the ball very well from beyond the arc at 39 percent, which fell of greatly after that year.

Fields was starting to fall off in his production in his sophomore season with the Knicks as his scoring average dropped by almost a full point per game, his rebounds per game dropped by over two and his three-point percentage went down to a woeful 25 percent. But that didn’t stop the Raptors from handing him a three-year contract worth about $18 million. Since joining the Raptors, Fields isn’t even averaging five points per game in his two seasons with the team.

Toronto is certainly going to be in the mix again in the Eastern Conference, but their depth is an issue, as their bench needs to be improved. Trading away Fields can help with that.

His contract will be expiring for the Raptors after this season, which makes him very tradable during this season. The Raptors may even be able to get something that can help fill out their bench for Fields, who has failed to give them production or even been in their rotation consistently.
