Everyone talks about the success of the apparently ageless San Antonio Spurshave had, but there is another player in a neighboring city that is beating Father Time. Dirk Nowitzki continues to prove that he is the gem of the Dallas Mavericks, leading them to a 105-82 win over the Utah Jazz. The power forward had an impressive double-double (27 PTS and 10 REB).
Dallas added rising star Chandler Parsons this offseason and he was thought to become the new star along with Monta Ellis. Instead, Nowitzki is not ready to give up the starring role as he currently leads the team with over 20 PPG, while shooting over 50 percent. His performance against the Jazz has helped the Mavericks improve to 4-2 in a brutal NBAWestern Conference.
Nowitzki’s continued success can also be credited to the improved roster. Along with Parsons, the acquisition of Tyson Chandler has proven to be beneficial. While with the New York Knicks, Chandler struggled with injuries, but already has three double-doubles this season.
As long as the roster stays healthy and Nowitzki continues to shoot well and produce numbers, Dallas is a very dangerous team. Bringing back players like Chandler and Devin Harris was a great move and is paying off. The big addition of Parsons was great and pumped up the starting five. Health will be the main factor for this team in a very tough Southwest division that could easily put five teams in the playoffs. Both the Houston Rocketsand Memphis Grizzlies remain undefeated. This season will not be a cake walk for anyone in the Southwest.
