The term “Big 3” has become a common term used throughout the NBA to describe a powerful trio of players for any given team. Its use was once used to only describe the Miami Heat’striple threat in LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. Since James has now disbanded the group to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a new “Big 3” was dubbed along with a few other considerations here and there.
Just as it seemed a dominant four-year stretch was ended, it may just continue in South Beach thanks to a new “Big 3.” The Heat’s new trio now consists of Bosh, Wade and Luol Deng. Before you get all huffy-puffy and scroll down to the bottom to make any comments, continue reading.
The Heat improved to 5-2 Sunday night as they defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 105-96. Miami was led by a dominant performance behind Deng with 30 points. Wade, Bosh and Deng combined for 70 PTS, 17 REB and 19 AST. It was almost a scene of déjà vu as another small forward took the starring role. In Miami’s five victories, the new “Big 3” is averaging 60.2 PTS, 17.8 REB and 11.7 AST. With a solid bench, those are great numbers to lead a team and compete.
As always, here comes the disclaimer: It is still early in the season. Sure it is, but Miami is playing well as a unit already, minus Norris Cole’s current slump and an article for another day. With Bosh taking leadership, Wade looking healthy and a replenished roster, the Heat can and will compete for the top of the East.
