Just when you thought Adidas and the NBA couldn’t possibly outdo themselves after last year’s horrendous Christmas Day “pajamas,” boy, did they find a way.

For starters, the logo on the front, above the number, makes it look like the jerseys should be for a recreational league, not for a professional basketball player to wear. Then on the back, they decided all players should be known by a first name basis — which really only works for LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant and a few others. Derrick Rose, Tim Duncan and John Wall, all of whom will be playing on Christmas, don’t exactly have unique names. To make matters worse, the name will be below the number.

There will be a few overlaps by having first names on the back — the Miami Heat have two players named Chris, Chris Bosh and Chris Andersen; the Los Angeles Lakers have two players named Jordan, Jordan Hill and Jordan Clarkson; and the Los Angeles Clippers have Chris Paul and Chris Douglas-Roberts.

Most people probably would have preferred for the player’s nicknames to be on the back, but hey, at least they finally got rid of the god-awful sleeves. It is just hard to believe that they couldn’t have possibly come up with a better design than what they ultimately decided upon.

Here’s an idea; instead of coming up with new designs, why not feature throwback uniforms? Who wouldn’t want to see the Chicago Bulls in the black pinstriped jerseys they rocked in the mid-1990s or the Cleveland Cavaliers in the road black jerseys they wore in the late-1990s?

Who knows, by next Christmas they will probably be playing in onesies like the Australian women’s national team. But for now, it will be another slate of Christmas Day games with terrible uniforms for all to see.
