Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard was recently investigated for and cleared of child abuse-related charges. TMZ reports that Howard was investigated in Florida for hitting his six-year old son with a belt.
According to documents obtained by TMZ:
“Dr. Kesler noted Braylon to have a linear bruise and patterned abrasions consistent with the history given by Braylon of being struck with a belt numerous times by his father.”
The doctor found the injuries to be the result of excessive force, and that they lasted longer than 24 hours. However, the findings were ruled insufficient to warrant action against Howard.
This case is just now reaching the light of day because, according to Howard’s camp, the boy’s mother (former Orlando Magic dancer) is attempting to “extract money” and is using her son as a “pawn” in her on-going legal battles with the Rockets’ center.
Still, it seems like Howard nearly went down the same path as Adrian Peterson, who just reached a plea deal in his child abuse case. Like AP, Howard apparently claimed he felt he did nothing wrong because he was also disciplined with corporal punishment as a child.
