Atlanta Hawks Should Strongly Consider Trading Elton Brand
The Atlanta Hawks re-signed Elton Brand this offseason, hoping the veteran big man could provide depth and leadership to the young team. He had a good season last year, proving that he still had something left in the tank and could be a quality contributor. He is not the talent that he once was, but remains the ultimate professional and understands his role. However, he has not been able to get on the court consistently this season, and finds himself buried behind several others players on the depth chart. The Hawks should try to explore their options on the trade market, and see what they can get if they choose to move Brand.
Brand is a trustworthy veteran who will do whatever it takes to win. He plays hard and is not afraid of dirty work at this point in his career. He still has a reliable jumper and a few low post moves to contribute on the offensive side. He is a good defender who has become smarter as he has gotten older. He can rebound and provide good minutes when the starting big men need a break.
Since the Hawks currently have other options, including two very talented starters in their front court, they should take advantage that other teams might be interested in Brand. Plenty of teams could use a veteran big man, especially for his price. He can make a difference in the locker room as well as on the court, and would fit well with a contending team. He may not be the player he once was, but he has adapted his game well. The Hawks would be smart to consider trading Brand during the season.
