Brooklyn Nets Should Strongly Consider Trading Deron Williams
When Deron Williams arrived in New Jersey, he was expected to be the superstar that would be the face of the franchise for when they moved to Brooklyn. Instead, he has seen a sharp decline in his game, and has been unable to stay healthy for a whole season. He is not the explosive player that he once was, and can no longer take over games. The Brooklyn Nets are paying him a lot of money, but may want to consider trading him as they continue to struggle.
The good news is Williams has looked a lot better this season, healthier than he has been in a while. He is scoring consistently and playing heavy minutes for the Nets. The problem is that he has shown spurts of his old self before, only to get injured shortly after. The Nets are well over the luxury tax once again, which surely is not worth it considering they may not have the roster to contend this season. They have too many injury-prone players, and do not match up well with the other top teams in the Eastern Conference.
Since Williams is playing well, they should try to see if they can create a blockbuster trade and move his contract. There should be several teams looking to make a splash and will want to gamble on Williams returning close to his peak years. In the right situation, Williams can elevate a good team into a contender. He still has the ability to be a top playmaker as long as he can stay injury-free. The Nets might not be able to take that gamble due to their injury concerns, but another team may be able to.
