Charlotte Hornets Should Strongly Consider Trading Bismack Biyombo
Bismack Biyombo has struggled since entering the league, and now finds himself on the last year of his contract with the Charlotte Hornets. He hasn’t been unable to find much playing time this season, although this past week he seems to be playing himself back into the rotation. Unfortunately for him, the Hornets have two young big men who are also coming off the bench and seem to have more of a future with the team. The organization has high hopes of building off of last season’s playoff appearance but have gotten off to a poor start, and will probably need to make a move to add some talent to their roster.
Biyombo should have a fair amount of trade value due to his youth and his expiring contract. He is still extremely raw, but can block shots and compete on the glass. There may be some organizations that believe they have the infrastructure and coaching staff to get the most out of his game. Some might even think he can still reach his potential and would be willing to take a gamble on him. A more likely situation is that a team will be interested in his contract, which is scheduled to come off the books after the season. He is making close to $4 million, a significant amount for a team looking to clear enough space to make a run at a top free agent this summer.
The Hornets could use another scorer on the perimeter as well as a veteran big man to help mentor the younger players on the team. Biyombo can be a valuable trade piece they can turn into a quality player to help their team reach the playoffs again this season. They should strongly consider trading Biyombo in hopes of improving their roster.
