The Phoenix Suns won their fourth game in a row against a depleted Indiana Pacers team Saturday night in dominant fashion, 106-83, making them 4-1 on their current road trip.
Just minutes into the game, Pacers center Roy Hibbert exited with an ankle sprain and the Suns capitalized on his absence. Along with Hibbert, Pacers forwards David West and Paul George were already inactive coming into tonight. With Hibbert healthy, the Pacers had a mismatch in the post they could go to since the Suns are thin down low, but six minutes into the game, that strategy was thrown out, and the Pacers had to try and find something else.
Hibbert’s injury also allowed the Suns to win the rebounding battle 51-47. The Suns are now 7-0 when they control the glass.
The Pacers continued to struggle on the offensive end of the floor despite Phoenix coming into the game having the 25th ranked defense in terms of PPG. They don’t have a healthy go-to scorer, and losing Lance Stephenson to free agency this summer has been a tough transition for them.
With the numerous Pacers injuries, this win is another unimpressive one for the Suns on this road trip. Their four wins have come against teams with a combined record of 12-37.
While they were unimpressive, it sounds silly to still say these were must-win games, but in order to keep pace in the Western Conference, the Suns had to win all four of these. Good teams in any sport make sure they get wins against inferior teams, and the Suns took care of business. Even though a couple of these games were close, the Suns seemed to play better start to finish and more consistently.
The Suns’ bench continued to dazzle as Gerald Green and Isaiah Thomas combined for 34 points.
Moving forward, the Suns play the Toronto Raptors, one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, before heading home and returning to conference play.
