Shannon Brown Deserves More Playing Time With Miami Heat
The Miami Heat have been in quite a slump recently, losing four of their last six games, and plummeting to the fifth best record in the Eastern Conference. A lot of this has to do with the reoccurring injuries to key players like Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, Norris Cole and others, which is why the consistency hasn’t quite been right. With depth as a continual issue, the Heat need to start digging a little deeper in the rotation.
This is why Shannon Brown deserves more playing time.
Brown hasn’t been given much of a chance to shine for the Heat organization, as he has only played in four games so far this season. However, he did start in Saturday night’s road victory against the Orlando Magic and showed brief glimpses of being the kind of role player the Heat need off the bench, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
In his last two games in which he played over 20 minutes, Brown has averaged eight points and two steals per game while shooting 45% from beyond the arc. These might not be the most impressive numbers, but considering the influx of playing time Brown has received, this type of production is most definitely welcome off the bench for the Heat.
With Wade out indefinitely from a hamstring injury, and Cole still healing from a finger injury, now is the time for coach Erik Spoelstra to give Brown some quality to minutes in the shooting guard rotation to see what the eight-year veteran can bring to the table. His increased production could lead to a more defined role off the bench, and help solidify production at the shooting guard position for the Heat.
