Washington Wizards vs. Cleveland Cavaliers: Game Preview, Prediction
The Cleveland Cavaliers will try to get back to .500 tonight as they take on the Washington Wizards. This is a rematch from five days ago, when the Wizards made easy work of the Cavs. That loss was the third in the Cavs’ eventual four-game losing streak.
That losing streak led to just about everyone questioning what is wrong with the team. Having every move scrutinized is nothing new for LeBron James, but it is for all of his new teammates. The circus type atmosphere is something that Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving have never had to face in their careers. That almost more than anything will take time to get used to.
Cleveland had no problem with the Orlando Magic on Monday night, but it will be a completely different challenge against Washington. The Wizards are currently in second place in the East with a 9-4 record. John Wall is playing at a very high level, averaging just under 20 points and 10 assists. Wall put the last game against Cleveland out of reach by scoring 17 points in the third quarter.
The last meeting between these teams also sparked the lack of effort criticism for Cleveland. Every loose ball was going to Washington, and several Cavs players, including LeBron, failed to get back on defense. The offense was also a mess; Anderson Varejao looked like the most competent player on the court for Cleveland. That’s a problem. Being out of sync on offense is understandable, but the overall laziness that they played with was unacceptable.
Expect the Cavs to come out with a much better energy level in tonight’s game as they seek some early-season revenge. The key for Washington will be to survive the initial burst from Cleveland. I expect the game to be close throughout, but the Cavs will be too much in the end.
Final Score: Cleveland 102, Washington 96
