Returning home seems to be a popular storyline in NBA circles these days. LeBron James went home to play with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Kevin Durant is expected by some to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder and sign with his hometown Washington Wizards. Now, Stephen Curry is the next superstar to be coaxed into talking about his hometown team.
During a game against the Charlotte Hornets, Curry told reporters that he “thought about” playing for them. He said that he feels right at home playing for the Golden State Warriors, but that it may be “fun” to play there.
This isn’t the first time Curry has made comments about his hometown. He talked about it this summer when interviewed for a CBS radio show. He talked about playing in front of his life long family and friends. It is something that is going to draw these superstar athletes when there is a max put in place. They know exactly how much they are going to make, so why not make it home?
Too much solace shouldn’t be taken into these comments. He knows he has plenty of time to play in California. Curry is currently signed through the 2016-17 season for a very team-friendly contract. He isn’t going anywhere soon, but it is fun to dissect these comments. After LeBron, everyone will be looking for NBA superstars to look into playing for their hometown.
The world will have to wait until 2017 to see whether there is any weight to these comments. For now, they are just answers at a press conference that have no meaning.
