The San Antonio Spurs, unsurprisingly, had a strong first month despite being short-handed.

The Spurs continue to move the ball at a dizzying rate thanks to flawless pick-and-roll sets and masterful movement from around the perimeter to under the rim. Offensively, you could not ask for much more, as they are currently No. 4 in PPG and there is always someone on the team who is ready to step up and produce if one of the stars is having an off night.

A huge reason as to why the Spurs won the championship last year was their return to playing stellar defense. After spending a few years to sharpen their offensive game, they have returned to being one of the top defenses in the league mainly thanks to Kawhi Leonard, who is arguably the best perimeter defender in the game.

Gregg Popovich remains the best coach in the game, and you could make a case that he is the best coach of all time. He masterfully tinkers with his lineups so that he can rest his star players and save them for the games that really matter, while also providing the opportunity for some of his guys off the bench to show why they deserve more minutes.

The only new addition to the team was rookie Kyle Anderson, who has not played enough to warrant a grade. All reports indicate that he is a perfect addition to the team who will turn out to be a fantastic role player for them in time.

They rested their stars for a couple games and were without Tiago Splitter and Patty Mills, but still the Spurs find themselves at 13-4 and on a eight-game winning streak. The West is certainly loaded, and the fact that the Spurs are not at the top right now is nothing to be worried about. They know the regular season is a marathon, not a sprint, and they are off to a fantastic start.
