Boston Celtics Must Trade Gerald Wallace in 2015
Gerald Wallace is the Boston Celtics‘ second-highest paid man, behind only Rajon Rondo, but he’s averaging only 8.8 minutes in six games this season. Wallace’s horrid contract is a very large monkey on the franchise’s back. He is inked in to be in Boston through the 2015-2016 season.
Coach Brad Stevens is not to blame for hardly using the 32 year-old, one time All-Star. The 24.4 minutes he averaged last year were extremely underwhelming (and expensive) before a season-ending injury after 58 games. Fans have hardly even seen him on the court this year, and if they did, they likely didn’t notice.
The Celtics are expected to make some big moves next summer. They have two first round picks and could potentially have another two picks in the second round, especially if they can find a place to move Wallace for more before the start of the 2016 season.
Danny Ainge and friends will grinning ear to ear along with Celtics fans if such moves are made. Potential use for the salary room could help them lock down an exponentially elite point guard in Rajon Rondo. The team could also bring in a veteran or renegotiate with one of their younger players. One thing is for certain; Boston has a lot of interesting options in the upcoming summers.
For now, Gerald Wallace will remain on the bench and cashing checks.
