Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett May Be Facing Off For the Last Time
When naming the best power forwards in NBA history, the names Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett are certainly among the first to be mentioned; while both players are among the greatest to ever play the game, both achieved success with contrasting methods: Duncan, the quiet, subdued playmaker, while Garnett is best known for his loud in-your-face demeanor.
Both are probably equally intimidating on the court.
Duncan and Garnett face off in the second and final matchup of the 2014-15 regular season between the San Antonio Spurs and the Brooklyn Nets. Assuming the two teams don’t meet in the NBA Finals, this could be the last time Duncan and Garnett play against one another; Duncan’s contract expires and the end seems to be drawing near for the five-time NBA champion. Garnett, too, is in the last year of his current contract.
Although each guy has had his time to dominate the league, the two couldn’t be more different. While Duncan has remained with one team for the duration of his career, Garnett has played for three organizations. Duncan’s big three has stuck with the Spurs for four NBA titles while Garnett’s trio is now completely separated. Duncan responds to confrontation with blank stares while Garnett responds with terrifying facial expressions and profanity-laced tirades — I’ve never heard of Carmelo Anthony waiting by a team bus to fight Duncan.
The two are obviously different beasts, but both have worked wonders on the basketball court for years. They each made something out of nothing in San Antonio and Minnesota. Hopefully, fans of the NBA can take time and appreciate the two for who they are and what they’ve done. Will they have game-highs in scoring tonight or fight each other? Probably not, but “Anything is possible!!!”
