The Cleveland Cavaliers came crashing down off of an eight-game winning streak to the chants of “O-K-C! O-K-C!” — an anthem that appeared to fuel Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook to combined athletic heights thought to be last seen in 2012.
Battling simultaneous injuries early in the year, Durant and Westbrook are getting back to being the electric 1-2 flurry the Oklahoma City Thunder have had to make do without. Durant appears to trust putting weight on his foot again, and akin to his latest Air Jordan commercial, Westbrook appears ready to fly.
Forget the Thunder’s 9-13 record, by the All-Star break, this slow start will be but a short conversation. The Thunder are now on a streak of their own, dropping their last three opponents in the last five days. Even though it’s been the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Lebron James-less Cavaliers, I view this as just a proactive recovery stint for the recuperating Thunder.
I see Oklahoma City getting better every game, and tonight marks the origin of their upward arc through the standings. Westbrook is having minimal issues with his broken metacarpal, and Durant looks like he’s about 90 percent KD — all signs that the Thunder’s stock is a buy.
Just one game separates the Thunder from the Denver Nuggets, and then their next sights would be set on the Portland Trailblazers, who currently hold the Northwest Division lead at 17-5.
There are still 60 games remaining in this young season, and the young, but talented Thunder are just getting charged.
