The Miami Heat were determined not to end their brutal five-game road trip on a loss, so they managed to pull out a close victory against the Utah Jazz, 100-95. The Heat haven’t won in Utah since 2008, which is pretty impressive considering the franchise had LeBron James under their wing for the last four seasons.
What was by far the most impressive feat from this game was the play of Dwyane Wade, who hours before tip-off was deemed too sick to probably play, and would most likely miss his ninth game of the season. Instead, Wade went off for a season high 29 points, seven assists, and three rebounds on 8-12 shooting from the field, plus managed to sink a game deciding three pointer in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
This was by far the most complete game that Wade has played all season, occuring ironically enough when he was the sickest. Wade’s steadying presence on both sides of the ball allowed his running mates Chris Bosh and Luol Deng to also have signature games of their own, notching 36 points and 14 rebounds collectively. Wade has become the de-facto point guard of this team, especially with the recent struggles of Norris Cole and Shabazz Napier. Wade could see even more time at the point guard position due to Napier being sent to the D-League this weekend.
The Heat will need more performances like this from Wade if this team wants to stay above the .500 mark. As of right now, the Heat are still a game back from this accomplishment, and that might not change for awhile considering who they have coming up on their schedule over the next two weeks.
