The Los Angeles Clippers had a lot going on during the offseason, but something they did not do was make any positive moves in regards to players. The Clippers kept their core big three in DeAndre Jordan, Blake Griffin and Chris Paul, but compared to what was going on in their organization, player movement was not a top priority.

Unfortunately for the Clippers, much of their time was spent ousting their former owner and little thought was put into setting up a championship caliber team. Now a quarter into the season, the Clippers are paying the price for their lack of pickups. The Clippers’ current record of 19-9 and sitting second in their division would be a good thing for most teams, but the Clippers are not like most teams. They are supposed to be better than that. With a new owner, the general consensus during the offseason was that the Clippers could actually see a run to the NBA Finals.

The Clippers have improved and evolved greatly season after season, and last year was a franchise best as they hung their second straight division championship banner. The offseason saw little change to the roster. The Clippers had just five new pickups and a draft pick join the squad. Most of the pickups are averaging well under 10 points per game, and the players they kept around, such as Glen Davis and Hedo Turkoglu, are not performing to their expected ability and averaging well under five points per game.

It has gotten to the point in the season where teams are making trades to improve and shed the dead weight. Unfortunately for the Clippers, all but two players have turned out to be dead weight. Jamal Crawford and Spencer Hawes are the only bench players worth keeping around, and with Hawes’ recent knee injury, he has not seen any activity in six games. Although Hawes was seeing plenty of playing time, his averages have been some of the lowest in his career.

The entire team cannot heavily rely on the shoulders of the Clippers’ big three. Having a bench is necessary, but most of the Clippers’ current bench players are unnecessary to the team.
