A once highly anticipated part of NBA All-Star weekend has been seriously lagging behind in recent years. From Dr. J, to Michael Jordan to Kobe Bryant, the Slam Dunk Contest has presented a platform for some of the most recognizable names in history to showcase their prolific dunking abilities. However, the elite players no longer participate in this event. These five names would undoubtedly revive a formerly gratifying event.

Wesley Johnson's brief NBA career has been defined by being one of the biggest busts in NBA history. Selected fourth overall in 2010, Johnson has bounced around a bit due to his extremely inconsistent offensive play and his knack for clanking terrible shots left and right. If Johnson excels at one thing, though, it's his athleticism. He is constantly soaring through the air, bringing some excitement to a dismal Los Angeles Lakers team.

4. Zach LaVine

Former UCLA Bruin, Zach LaVine isn't the most naturally gifted offensive player nor is he the greatest defensive player. The Minnesota Timberwolves selected him in the lottery for one reason: his explosive hops. A 6-foot-5 wispy point guard, LaVine has displayed a tremendous upside throughout his rookie season, predicated on his freakish athletic abilities.

3. Andrew Wiggins

Once considered the heir to LeBron James' throne, the first overall selection in the 2014 draft Andrew Wiggins is certainly an intriguing player to invite to the Dunk Contest. His high bust potential appears to have been erased completely as he's performed very well alongside a group of young teammates. This may be the only opportunity the NBA has when Wiggins would be willing to participate in the event.

2. Gerald Green

Gerald Green presents a unique case, since he's already participated in the Slam Dunk contest and captured the crown back in 2007. As an ultra-enrgy guy, it would seem like almost a crime not to include Green in the competition again in 2015. He's easily the most explosive and acrobatic dunker of the group.

1. Russell Westbrook

First off, there is absolutely no chance that Russell Westbrook would even entertain the mere thought of participating in the Slam Dunk contest after suffering a myriad of knee injuries. It can't hurt to dream though, right? Since his return to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook has played with an overwhelming level of anger resulting in a plethora of highly embarrassing "posterizations" of his defenders.
