The New York Knicks got spanked by the Los Angeles Clippers; there’s just no better way of putting it. Even with Carmelo Anthony back in the lineup, New York was a sitting duck, getting crushed 99-78. It was the Knicks’ ninth consecutive loss, good for the second-longest losing streak of the NBA season for New York. It also dropped them to 5-29, one game closer for a surefire lottery pick.
It is more than safe to say that this season is a lost cause and the Knicks have given up on it. The good news is that plenty of painful contracts expire come next summer. From Amare Stoudemire to J.R. Smith, Phil Jackson will no longer have to deal with those obscene contracts. Jackson will be able to provide head coach Derek Fisher with a top draft pick and substantial salary space to sign significant free agents.
The first half of the season has been a nightmare for New York, to put it lightly. There were such high hopes for the Knicks with a new coach, GM and Anthony’s return. Before 2015 can even be brought in, New York has already turned its sights to October of 2015. The next step might be to shut down Anthony and get that knee the proper treatment and repair.
There is nothing left to prove in the 2014-15 season for Anthony or the Knicks. The only remaining worth to any of this is pride. However, health and career weigh heavily over pride. The ultimate goal of obtaining a championship in the Big Apple can’t be accomplished if Anthony has the knees of a 50-year-old. That being said, pick up your head, lick your wounds and prepare for next season, Knicks fans.
