Making the Case For Chris Paul As an NBA All-Star Starter

Chris Paul of the Los Angeles Clippers is once again having a tremendous season. He currently ranks fourth in the NBA in both assists per game and steals per game. The only guard who should be ranked ahead of him in the voting at this point is Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. No guard in the Western Conference makes a bigger impact at both ends of the floor than Paul.

Paul’s best stat is his assist-to-turnover ratio. He currently leads the NBA in that category with a remarkable 4.55 assists for every turnover, showing that he is able to get his teammates involved without hurting them by turning the ball over. He is also having a great season shooting the ball. He is currently shooting just under 48 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and over 88 percent from the free-throw line.

CP3 is also getting it done on the defensive side of the ball. He is currently averaging two steals per game and is able to make an impact at both ends of the court. The advanced metrics are in Paul’s favor as well. He currently ranks fourth in RPM and eighth in PER. Other than Curry, only one other guard can even make a case to be the other starter and that’s James Harden. While Harden is tremendous on offense and has improved his defense, he still doesn’t make enough of a defensive impact to be a force on both sides of the ball like Paul.

Overall, of all the guards in the Western Conference, none make as big of an impact on both sides of the ball as Paul. He is extremely efficient on offense and one of the best defensive point guards in the NBA. Along with Curry, Paul should definitely be starting in the All-Star game.
