Everyone expected for the Miami Heat to have a down season after LeBron James departed, but no one expected the rebirth of Dwyane Wade. South Beach’s star player and the face of the Heat franchise has shown newfound youth since his good friend left him high and dry. His 23 PTS per game is his best in the last four seasons, and he is also shooting 50 percent from the field.
It’s great that Wade has resurrected himself and looks healthier than recent years, but by no means should he be the one leading the team in scoring or carrying the load. It is no wonder Miami is 15-21, because former “Flash” is the leading scorer. The man who should be leading the Heat, who assumed James’ position as front man, is the man who got the big payday last summer. This is the man who turned down the tough NBA West for a weak East, but still can’t average a double-double. This man is Chris Bosh.
Bosh got the big money to stay in South Beach and pledged to be the leader and star. However, the big man is only averaging 21.2 PTS and 7.8 REB per game. Sure, these are his best numbers of the last five years, but when you sign a $120 million-plus contract, there are certain expectations to be achieved. I said it before the season and I will continue to stick by it: in order for Miami to succeed, Bosh must averaged at least 20 PTS and 10 REB. That hasn’t happened, and the Heat are six games below .500.
With Miami just beginning a possible season changing five game road trip out West, this could be Bosh’s wake-up call. Wade will still need to keep his numbers up there, but he can’t do it all. If Bosh can get those numbers up a tad and lead the Heat in scoring, the franchise will see much better success on the court.
