Yesterday the Boston Celtics traded point guards with the Denver Nuggets, giving up Jameer Nelson for Nate Robinson. Robinson’s contract is expected to be bought out by the Celtics in an attempt to clear as much cap space as possible for next year. With this and last week’s trades, the Celtics are setting up to have quite an interesting summer.
The Celtics have an absurd amount of draft picks, likely 10 first-rounders over the next five seasons. Draft picks are something which Danny Ainge recently stated a team cannot have enough of. Ainge and his merry band of executives are certainly doing all they can to get anyone and everyone’s draft picks in a complete overhaul of the roster this season.
With an ample amount in tow, we can expect the Celtics to make some serious moves either prior to or at the 2015 NBA Draft. Boston is in an obvious rebuild mode, and they likely won’t look for a quick fix by signing big name veterans (if any of them even want to go to Boston). C’s fans can expect them to use their future picks to move up in the upcoming draft.
With Marcus Smart looking stronger every night and likely to get more and more playing time as the roster is gutted, the Celtics have found a young player to begin their rebuild around. James Young has also showed some serious potential as a shooter, and he is also getting more playing time.
In the next few seasons, the Celtics could potentially be the youngest team in the league. The rebuilding process will no doubt be a lengthy one, but don’t expect Ainge and the Celtics to settle for anything less than a top three pick in 2015.
