At 19-20, the Cleveland Cavaliers are far from a lost season. With that said, the growing problems within the team are a major concern. Reports continue to surface regarding major problems within the coaching staff, which do not appear to be going away anytime soon.
Assistant coach Tyronn Lue has been reportedly calling timeouts without head coach David Blatt’s consent and players are not running the plays that the coaches are telling them to do on the court. LeBron James was seen pushing Blatt back towards the bench when he was arguing a call with a referee in Tuesday night’s loss to the Phoenix Suns, which was the team’s sixth consecutive loss and nine of their last 10.
Essentially, the Cavaliers have slowly become the laughing stock of the NBA. The following excerpt from an article written by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst tells it all:
For weeks now, the small talk when league personnel run into each other at college games, airports or pregame meals has frequently started with: “What the hell is going on in Cleveland?”
That is the question of the season.
No team made a bigger splash in the offseason than the Cavaliers. Bringing back James and trading for power forward Kevin Love was supposed to give Cleveland an edge in the Eastern Conference. Even though there have been signs of success, the reality is there is so much work that needs to be done in order for them to be considered legitimate championship contenders that it is hard to believe they have a shot at a high seed in the conference.
Even if people do not want to admit it, there is no denying Blatt is slowly losing his team in his first year. It is never a good sign when players are openly discussing with other players around the league the issues with the coaching staff. Not to mention, there appears to be frustration among the players when they are on the court.
At this point, the media is having a field day with the situation the Cavaliers have found themselves in, which certainly is not helpful. With that said, there is enough talent and leadership among the players that Cleveland should be able to turn it around in time for June.
