The Chicago Bulls have lost six of their last eight games. The good news is they still have a comfortable hold on the fourth seed and are within striking distance of the second seed in the Eastern Conference. The bad news is point guard Derrick Rose was forced to let his emotions run high and point out the obvious after Chicago’s 108-94 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“Everybody has to be on the same page,” Rose said, according to ESPN. “Until then, we’re going to continue to get our a– kicked.”
Rose was not shy in letting his team know who needs to step up. In fact, he spared no expense when saying the entire team needs to get on the same page. If not, the losing will continue at a rapid pace.
“I think communication is huge,” Rose said. “We’re quiet when we’re out there, and it’s leading to them getting easy baskets. We got to give a better effort. It seems like we’re not even competing, and it’s f—ing irritating.”
Anyone who has played a team sport at any level knows that communication needs to be a top priority. Skill level is always very important, but it is communication and chemistry that can overcome even the most talented teams. If the Bulls are not talking on the court and just trying to do their own thing, it is no wonder the team has fallen into a funk as of late.
Since a lack of communication is clearly one of the main reasons Chicago is struggling, Rose needs to step it up. He is the most identifiable leader of the team, which means it is his job to get the players back on track. Unleashing his frustration to the media is a tactic that could be met with understanding from his teammates, but it also could be seen as their captain throwing them under the bus. He must rally the troops face-to-face if he wants the players to come together and start winning once again.
The Bulls will have a chance to right the ship on Thursday when they take on the San Antonio Spurs at home.
